12 Reasons Floyd Mayweather Will Defeat Manny Pacquiao

9. Floyd's Chin

One of the most underrated parts of Floyd Mayweather’s game is his chin. He has been in the ring and taken hard shots from big punchers such as Maidana, Alvarez, Robert Guerrero, and Shane Mosley.

In the build toward a lot of his fights, his opponents and their trainers say, “Floyd has never felt this kind of punching power.”

When those fighters were lucky enough to land a shot on the button, Mayweather has managed to stay on his feet. In fact, he has only ever been “knocked down” twice – once by Zab Judah when his glove grazed the canvas (and was not ruled an official knockdown) and the other by intentionally touching his glove to the canvas after suffering a self-inflicted broken hand against Carlos Hernandez.

Casual fans tend to think Mayweather lacks toughness, but in all actuality, he has shown tremendous heart by taking hard punches and making the necessary adjustments to avoid them going forward.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, was knocked out cold by a straight right hand from Juan Manuel Marquez as recently as December of 2012. Earlier in that same fight, a looping right hand sent him to the mat. To his credit, Pacquiao’s chin has held up fairly well against solid punchers, but he is a lot more familiar with the way the floor feels than Mayweather.
