12 Ways To Get Into UFC

5. The Martial Arts

Columbia PicturesColumbia PicturesThe first UFC event back in 1993 in Denver, Colorado was established to answer the question of which discipline of martial arts was the most effective. The event would throw a boxer, Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, sumo wrestler, kickboxer, wrestler and karate-experts in a cage with no rules other than no biting and no eye-gouging to see who would come out on top. In the end the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist €“ Royce Gracie €“ would shock everybody by submitting his way to victory. This intriguing concept was enough to sow the seeds which would grow into the gigantic promotion the UFC is today. Though the modern fighters in the sport are far more well-rounded, they often still have specialisations so MMA fights still answer the question of which strain of martial arts is most effective. Anybody who has ever dabbled or has an interest in the martial arts will be intrigued as to which discipline gives a fighter the highest chance of victory €“ this question is still being answered by the UFC. An old saying in the fight game is that styles make match-ups and that is most certainly true of MMA. From the common contest between a striker and a grappler to the more subtle battle between a kickboxer and a karate fighter, an MMA fight is an intriguing spectacle to behold which is sure to fascinate anybody with a background in martial arts.
