Like Dublin, Nolberto Solano is another ex-pro with a passion for reed instruments. Having learnt to play the trumpet as a youngster back in his native Peru, Solano carried his passion through into later life, playing in a salsa band affectionately entitled The Geordie Latinos. Back in his playing days on Tyneside, the Peruvian could occasionally be spotted performing on the music circuit, often putting his talent to good use in raising money for charity.

By all accounts, managerial legend Bobby Robson wasn’t a fan. Solano liked to call his boss up and anonymously serenade him down the phone line.
