This isn't what you signed up for. When you began to play basketball you dreamed of launching successful shot after shot, slicing through opposition defences with mind-blowing moves, and throwing silky no-look passes to your mates. Unfortunately, half of basketball involves not actually having possession of the ball, which means that learning to defend is just as important as having a jump shot with Wi-Fi range. This often involves training sessions devoted entirely to shuffling around like a crab, taking painful charges, and getting far too close to your teammates when jostling for rebounds. It's all worth it once the weekend comes, but getting there can be torture.
