Ben Thatcher's infamy stems from a single incident in a game between Manchester City and Portsmouth. The full back steamed into a challenge with Pedro Mendes elbow-first, knocking him into the advertising boards at the side of the pitch and causing him to lose consciousness. Mendes suffered a seizure on his way to hospital, but was thankfully discharged the next day. Thatcher was banned for four matches by City and six by the FA, as well as losing six weeks of wages.
