Backstrom, the Swedish favourite who claimed England's Mike Wilkinson just wasn't up to his level prior to the fight, came out hard. He was aggressive. He was on the attack. It looked like it could be an early finish. It was, but not for Backstrom. Instead, Wilkinson countered and caught Backstrom. He went stiff. Went down hard. It was pretty clear, as he grasped feebly at the ref's leg, that he had no idea just what had happened. We mentioned in our predictions piece that Wilkinson was fired up prior to the fight over Backstrom taking him so lightly, but frankly, we still fighred it would be Backstrom for the win. Boy were we wrong!
