5 Football Books Every Fan Must Read

4. Calcio €“ John Foot

If the story of German football is brave and inspiring, the history of Italian football is one of scandal and dubious decisions. The book documents Italian football throughout the years. There are stories of referees being chased out of town in the 19th century, allegations of match-fixing which have brought down some of Italy€™s most respected legends and the domination of Serie A in the late €˜80s and early €˜90s. The history of Italian football is littered with exceptional stories, many of which bring the book to life. Every level of the game; from the national side to some of the famous teams and their downfalls are all covered in this wonderful book. At times it can be difficult to keep record of each scandal but they all add up to a disturbing image of football; one which doesn€™t look like changing anytime soon. The Italian game differs so much from that of the English; in Britain a majority of the notable moments are on field but in Italy that is never the case. Calcio does a wonderful job of taking the differences, such as the power of the ultras and making them not only entertaining but simple.

Write about football and games. Support Liverpool. Consistently disappointed.
