3. Marion Jones
Marion Jones was the greatest American female athlete since Florence Griffith Joyner back in the 1980s. Her blistering pace made her the dominant force in female sprinting for several years. Married to C.J Hunter - a shot putter who had previously tested positive for a banned steroid - Jones was often accused of steroid abuse throughout her career yet she had always vehemently denied these claims. The wheels started to fall of the wagon when BALCO founder Victor Conte claimed he had personally supplied Jones with five different types of steroids. Hunter also claimed that Jones was taking steroids a long time before the Sydney Olympics. On the 5th of October Marion Jones admitted to lying to federal agents during the BALCO investigation., bringing an end to her career aas well as those of Tim Montgomery,Kelli White and baseball player Barry Bonds. After spending six months in prison for her crimes, Jones appeared on Oprah to apologize to the public.
