1. Muhammed Ali

What more is there to be said about Muhammed Ali? When the boxer passed away earlier this month, there was a global outpouring of grief, with tributes from sports stars, celebrities, politicians, and pretty much everyone else.

Starting out as Cassius Clay, he won Olympic Gold in 1960 before embarking on the most storied professional boxing career of all-time.

He rose to prominence with a defeat of Sonny Liston to win his first heavyweight title, but it was after he converted to the Nation of Islam and changed his name to Muhammed Ali that his career really started to boon. He defeated Liston again in a rematch, giving us one of the most iconic sports photos ever, and during his career won the heavyweight championship three times, and fought in some of the greatest fights in history against rivals Joe Frazier and George Foreman. Almost as skilled on the mic as he was in the ring, Ali talked a good game and courted controversy, but was almost always able to back it up.

Of course, it's not just in the ring he was an inspirational figure. He was an advocate for Civil Rights, and refused to be drafted into the military for the Vietnam War, despite the risk to his career and prospect of jail time.

Ali was, quite simply, The Greatest.
