5 Reasons Chelsea Will Win FA Cup Final

Chelsea vs Liverpool is the FA Cup Final showdown this Saturday at Wembley. Here's five reasons why we think the Blues will be victorious in lifting the title;

1. Form

The Newcastle result apart, Chelsea have experienced a good run of form, coinciding with Andre Villas Boas€™ sacking and the temporary promotion of Roberto Di Matteo. The 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge against Barcelona in the Champions League semi final first leg is the standout score line, but the 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou, 5-1 thrashing of London rivals Tottenham, and the 0-0 draw away at the Emirates also indicate Chelsea are in good touch, especially when compared with the very indifferent results of their opponents on Saturday.

2. Drogba, Mata, Lampard

If Chelsea are going to lift the FA Cup on Saturday, there is little doubt that one, two or all three of the above players will be involved in the winning goal. After a bout with malaria, Didier Drogba has finally started to show top form again, his goal against Tottenham in the semi a magnificent strike reminiscent of the Drogba of old €“ power, determination, finishing €“ while his performance as an auxiliary winger/full back when Chelsea went down to ten men against Barcelona showed his willingness to work for his team mates. With his departure this summer looking ever more likely, he will want to go out with a bang. Mata has been one of the few consistent successes of Chelsea€™s season and when played behind the striker he has lubricated the gears of the Chelsea attack, creating and scoring goals. Lampard, after a shaky start under Villas Boas, has come on strong again, his 16 goals in all competitions yet another impressive haul for the midfielder.

3. Winners Mentality

If you had to pick one team in the Premiership to go out and get a result, it would be Chelsea. When a result needs to be grinded out who better than the boys in blue? They showed against Barcelona that they have the organisation, discipline, and work rate to make sure they pull off the result they need, and if the Cup final sees a classic case of two teams who do not want to lose, you would bet on Chelsea to be the side to muster a goal from nowhere

4. Counter Attacks

As Tottenham pushed forward in search on an equaliser, Chelsea exploited the counter, racking up a further three goals. When Barcelona pushed forward in search of another goal, first Ramires, then Fernando Torres breached their back line to score the decisive goals. If Liverpool take the game to Chelsea, or if the blues get the first goal, counter attacking opportunities could spring up and the athleticism of Ramiers, Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Ashley Cole could exploit a rather sluggish Liverpool backline.

5. Set Pieces

Chelsea have a strong and physical team, and with the likes of John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Drogba, they will pose a threat from corners and set pieces. Also any free kicks in sight of the goal will have no shortage of takers, with Mata, Lampard and Drogba all able to score anywhere within thirty yards. Liverpool have a few tall players themselves, especially if Andy Carroll is on the pitch, but overall Chelsea have more ability in the air and the Reds have been found out at corners recently.
