5 Reasons NSAC Should Have Declined Vitor Belfort's License Request
2. His February Failure
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngF9fjgZV8A This past February, Vitor Belfort failed an out-of-competition drug test while on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy). That test failure led to the scrapping of the entire TRT therapeutic use exemption program. TUEs were what allowed fighters to "legally" use TRT in the first place. Of course, since the test was out of competition, the results didn't have to be released. Rumours swirled, but Belfort stayed mum. He and his laywers declined comment at every turn - until the issue came to a head in June, when he was suddenly added as a last minute replacement for Wanderlei Silva against Chael Sonnen. Well aware that he would need to apply for a fight license in Nevada for that fight - and that as a result, the test failure would come out - Belfort admitted to the February failure in a post to his Instagram account. The test failure has never really been fully explained, other than that he was over his allowed testosterone levels, while out of competition. Which automatically makes you wonder whether these levels were being cranked with no fight in sight (cycling is something many drug abusers in sports have become experts at, after all).
