5 Reasons To Look Forward To UFC In 2015

1. Marquee Matchups

Above all else, the main selling point for UFC is the fights. You can have all the pomp and circumstance dressed up in a carefully crafted package of hype but if you don€™t give the fans fights between to competitors they want to see battle it out none of it matters. This year we€™ve got some potentially awesome main events coming our way. Let€™s take a look at some of them. Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort (UFC 184 €“ 2/28/15) €“ This will be a real test for Weidman to see if he can hold onto his middleweight title against the most explosive striker in the division. Belfort is a constant source of controversy due to his problems with TRT, but when he€™s on his game he€™s a hard man to beat. Weidman will have the distinct wrestling advantage and should look to take this one to the ground, but Vitor can catch anyone at any time. Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano (UFC 184 €“ 2/28/15) €“It€™s surprising that this isn€™t headlining its own card since the women€™s queenpin has proven to be a significant draw on her own. Rousey will square off against the lady she was originally slated to face at the culmination of their coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter before she was replaced by Meisha Tate. Zingano presents an interesting challenge for The Rowdy One, but at this point Ronda has become the Mike Tyson of women€™s MMA, with fans tuning in not to see if she can be beaten, but how fast and in what way she€™ll decimate her opponent. Jon Jones vs. Anthony Johnson (TBD) €“ Most fans probably expected Alexander Gustaffson to get past €œRumble€ and slide into a much-anticipated rematch with champion Jon Jones, but the fact that Johnson put an end to that notion, and did so handily, yields an even better result. Jones vs. Johnson is going to be exciting and in-your-face and something to look forward to. Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum (TBD) €“ If you€™ve been paying attention to Fabricio Werdum since making his return to the UFC, you€™ve seen a man who looks primed and ready to take the belt from the inactive Velasquez. Already a master BJJ technician, Fabricio has added formidable striking to his game as well and presents a dangerous challenge to the champ. We may be looking at a man atop the heavyweight division in 2015. Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor (TBD) €“ This one may be the most exciting of all just due to the sheer amount of hype the UFC promotional machine has placed behind the Irish superstar. McGregor is a Dana White favorite and has captured the attention of the fans with his mouth and his fists and presents a staunch opponent for the featherweight king.. Aldo looks as if he struggles with complacency at times (that happens when you€™re that much better than everyone else) and Conor and his attitude and confidence are exactly what Jose needs to put together another epic performance. We€™ll either have a new champ that the promotion is in love with a renewed focus from the killer who currently holds the belt. It€™s a win-win for fans.
