2. Emphasis on Time Trialling
The 99th edition of the Tour De France presents a route that features a staggering 102KM of individual Time Trialling which is the most demanding challenge against the clock witnessed for half a decade and gifts Wiggins the perfect opportunity to put serious time into his fellow contenders. Whilst the 6.4 KM prologue will only split genuine rivals by seconds, Brad will be hoping to translate that into minutes on the 41.5 KM solo pursuit into Besancon on stage 9 and on the taxing 53.5 KM time trial into Chatres on stage 19. The former effort comes just before the tour's first mountain stages and the latter comes on the penultimate day of the race after all the serious climbing has been commenced thus presenting an ideal chance for Wiggins to eat into the time he is likely to have lost travelling uphill. If Wiggins is going to win this year's race then it seems very probable that his victory will be earnt on the 53 and a half kilometre "race of truth" on the 21st of July. If by this stage he is able to maintain his flawless time trialling posture with his back arched straight as an arrow, his elbows perfectly tucked in and his legs still fluidly spinning after twenty days of pain then this might just be the day that Wiggins makes history for British cycling.
