5 Tactical Changes Crystal Palace Fans Can Expect This Season

1. A Move From Counter Attacking To Attacking

There is no doubt that Palace are at their most exciting and pleasing to watch when they are breaking quickly, with Wifried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie bearing down on opposition fullbacks. However, all too often those breaks would fall apart as either winger would shoot into the stands, make the wrong decision or just fall over their own feet. For every sublime pirouette or '360 flick', there was a frustrating shank into the stands lurking a couple of minutes away.

It's because of this that Pardew has tried to add more control to the side since he joined in December last year. Pape Souré can provide the width that would be vacated if Zaha or Bolasie were left out, which would allow the ball playing midfielders Jordan Mutch, Lee Chung-yong and Yohan Cabye to come in to help the side keep possession and use it more intelligently. There's every chance the fans will be seeing less of that lightning pace on the break.

There will, of course, be ample moments throughout the season where Palace will need to use the counter attack, but for the most part fans can look forward to seeing a team playing on the front foot, placing less emphasis on defence while playing an attacking possession game that is reactive, not proactive.
