5 WSOF Fighters We'd Like To See In The UFC

1. Nick Newell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqrZr4VBz1c Weight Class: Lightweight It's hard not to cheer for Nick Newell (11-0). He's one of the best feel-good stories in MMA thus far into his career. And where ever that career goes from this point out, Newell can live knowing he was a highly successful fighter, fought and won in a major organization, and is now going to fight for the WSOF lightweight title. Not bad for a guy born with only one hand, a condition known as congenital amputation. Newell has likely tired of all the focus being put on his missing limb at this point, and that's perfectly understandable. He has, after all, done his talking in the ring. He held the XFC lightweight championship, and the organization seemed to have trouble finding people who were willing to fight him. After all, what's the upside in fighting a guy with one hand? If you win, you beat a guy people see as having a disadvantage, and if you lose, you lost to the guy with the missing hand. At this point, however, Newell has earned the respect of fans and fighters alike. While there aren't a lot of recognizable names on his record, he's not fighting total cans by any stretch: his WSOF opponents so far have been Sabah Fadai, who is now 9-3, and Keon Caldwell, who is 9-2. Before joining the WSOF, Newell's name was brought to Dana White's attention, and he was dismissive of the fighter, saying he would "never" fight in the UFC and questioning his ability to be licensed by some of the bigger athletic commissions, including Nevada. However, White clearly lacked a fair amount of background info on the fighter, as Newell had already been licensed in Nevada, which is a key area for the UFC, and is home to the most influential athletic commission in the combat sports realm. Perhaps when Newell fights for the WSOF lightweight title on July 5th, Dana White will take note. Newell's managed to change a lot of minds, hopefully White's can be one more.
