Ortiz, despite a smaller reach, had a 29-2-2 record with 22 KO's. Mayweather at the time was 41-0-0. The fight was very close, with both fighters trading rounds early on. In the fourth round, Ortiz started cornering Mayweather and landing huge combos. Twice in the round, Ortiz was warned for head contact. (With 2:16 remaining and again at 1:15.) With less than 20 seconds remaining, Ortiz cornered Mayweather and unleashed a massive combo. During the combo, Ortiz headbutted Mayweather, forcing referee Joe Cortez to halt the fight and penalize Ortiz. Just before the fight resumed, Ortiz leaned in to hug Mayweather and apologize for the shot. Simultaneously, Cortez said "Let's go," and the fight resumed. Still trying to apologize, Ortiz was clocked by a vicious left hook, then a right, and down he went. Unable to answer the 10-count, Ortiz was knocked out, Mayweather was declared the winner. Merchant began by asking questions about what Floyd did and why, only to have Mayweather direct attention to family and his fans.
