6 Shocking Brawls That Surrounded Huge MMA Fights

1. Cormier-Jones Brawl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii6RVMwvRKc UFC 178 was to be the rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. Instead, the Swedish challenger was injured, and replacement Daniel Cormier came in. Cormier had been calling out Jon Jones since arriving in the UFC and announcing his drop to light heavyweght. He told Jones he was the "kid at the wrestling tournament that's always in your bracket!" and accused Jones of running from him. Jones hit back, and the two engaged in Twitter battles that included Jones using his own daughter to deliver a message that "Daddy" was going to beat Cormier up. Classy. Things got even less classy at a media event this past week. At a press conference in Las Vegas, on stage in front of the media, Jones and Cormier had a stare down. The need for these stare downs is a question for another day, but the UFC likes to use them in its marketing. Jones wound up putting his forehead right against Cormier. Cormier took offence, shoved Jones, and Jones responded with a punch. At that point, things simply deteriorated, with poor UFC PR Chief Dave Sholler caught in the middle. Well, that's that, right? Smooth sailing up to the fight? Not so fast. Jones and Cormier were then caught on camera, when they thought no one was listening, trading insults that led to Jones literally threatening to kill Cormier. To be fair, Cormier threatened to spit on Jones, but I'm pretty sure murdering someone over that is still frowned upon. €œI€™m not saying I would fight you. I said I would kill you if you did some silly s**t like that" Jones was caught saying. Not a great line coming from the first UFC fighter sponsored by Nike in North America. As we've learned by now, Jones will likely never understand how to present himself to the public, but it's actually surprising to see Cormier sink to this level along with him.
