7 Premier League Teams That Could Face The Drop

6. Wigan Athletic

The masters of staying up, Wigan Athletic are tipped for relegation every year, but every season, (usually towards the end) they find a bit of form and complete the Great Escape. For Roberto Martinez the start of a new season seems to signal a tougher challenge than the year before and this coming campaign will be no different. With doubts still surrounding the future over star winger, Victor Moses, who has one year left on his contract, Martinez may be fighting relegation with a weaker squad than he had last time out, and that quite simply does not bode well. But before we write off Wigan it is important to recognise what advantages Martinez does have. One luxury Roberto Martinez has at Wigan is a Chairman that adores him. Dave Whelan has made no secret of his admiration of Martinez as a coach and it is difficult to envisage the Spaniard ever being given the boot from the DW Stadium, even if Wigan finished bottom of the table. The benefit of this cannot be underestimated. Martinez knows that whatever the outcome going into every game, that he still Whelan€™s number one, and having that job security can make the former Wigan player€™s job that bit easier. Wigan are akin to the relegation version of Manchester United as of late. They always seem to come out on top, and always avoid the dreaded drop, but their form never seems to pick up until the end of the season. Whether they can continue to do this, with the limited resources at their disposal and the probable exit of Moses is the big question for Whelan and Martinez, and although I am tipping them for the drop, I wouldn€™t be too surprised if they were to do it again. Safety/Relegation Verdict: RELEGATION
