There's really no reason to debate who was the better individual player - it's Jordan. But a better basketball player? Not so much.

James needs to be surrounded by shooters, since he likes to drive into the lane and kick the ball back to an open teammate for an easy three. That's why James constantly urges the Cavs' front office to look for the right players. Also, he's always willing to sacrifice his salary in order to bring in better players.

Jordan on the other hand believed that the team could only win on his terms, when he had the ball in his hands - and most of the time he was right. His exceptional talent had also be reflected by his salary. Consider the summer of 1996, when Jordan almost joined the Knicks.

The Knicks were supposedly giving Jordan $25 million for a season and the Bulls had one hour to beat that offer. In the end Jordan signed a one year contract for $30 million. The second best player on the team, Scottie Pippen, made ten times less.

James never signed such a huge professional contract, probably never will. Instead, he asks the front office for better deals for his teammates.
