9 Reasons Chael Sonnen's Retirement Is A Big Blow To The UFC
6. Loyalty To The Organization
Dana White has a proven track record of rewarding those who have been loyal to the UFC. Hes been quoted many times guaranteeing a job for life for Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, whose The Ultimate Fighter season one finale brawl has been credited as saving the UFC. Other former fighters like Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes are in the same boat, men whose bloodshed under the UFC banner has been appreciated by their bosses. Chael Sonnen is a fighter who has shown loyalty to the UFC, through his willingness to do any and all promotional commitments, step up when asked and be a good soldier. Its that devotion and dependability that kept his boss standing in his corner after his two failed drug tests, when many fighters in similar situations did not have that luxury. Where many athletes choose public forums to air out their grievances with their teams, coaches, organizations, etc., not once in any of his media appearances, nor on social media or any other outlet has Sonnen expressed anything negative about his employers, instead praising them at every turn. Loyalty is an admirable trait and one the UFC head honchos clearly value, and now that Chael is riding off into the sunset, thats an attribute that will be missed.
