Arsenal 2–0 Crystal Palace - 5 Things We Learned

1. The Emirates Is A Bit Of A Library

Highbury might not have been the loudest of places, post-terrace days; one end of the ground was literally dead for part of the 93/94 season when they were installing seats. Remember the stupid mural of fans they put up to give the illusion of a crowd? But at least the ground was tight, close to the action and had an atmosphere. Yesterday at the Emirates, for long patches, it was subdued. In previous visits to the Emirates, I assumed that the atmosphere was low because the team weren't being all they could be. But this year they're in contention for the title, playing great football, scoring goals, keeping clean sheets. These are good days for the Gunners! So why so quiet? The Emirates is an architecturally stunning stadia €“ one of the finest of the new crop of contemporary stadiums €“ with amazing seating and facilities. However, like most of the new ones, you are further away from the action and the sound doesn't carry like it does in the grand, old stadiums. That said, if The Palace fans managed to make their voices heard, 50-thousand plus Arsenal supporters have NO excuse to not be making those stands shake and get their team to their first trophy since 2005. In the all mighty words of Delia, Arsenal supporters, "Let's be 'avin you!"
