Arsenal Transfer News: Wojciech Szczesny Could Replace Buffon At Juventus?
The Arsenal keeper could be Juve bound...
Legendary Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has heavily hinted that Arsenal's Wojciech Szczesny will replace him when he hangs up the gloves, according to TeamTalk.
Currently on loan at Juve's Serie A rivals Roma, Szczesny had been previously rumoured to trade Rome for Turin in a £14 million move this Summer. That deal looked off the table though when Roma president James Palotta said he expected the keeper to sign for his club permanently instead.
Now, Buffon has dropped the bombshell that he wants Szczesny to replace him between the sticks for Juventus. Whilst on international duty with Italy, Buffon said he could retire happy with AC Milan keeper Donnarumma in goal for the Azzurri and Szczesny playing for his beloved Bianconeri. Buffon is expected to call it a day when his Juve deal expires in June, 2018.
This would be a massive switch for Szczesny, who was relegated to backup status upon the arrival of Petr Čech at Arsenal in the Summer of 2015. Replacing a keeper the stature of 'Gigi' is no easy task, but Buffon himself seems to believe that a move from Juventus for Szczesny is imminent.
