The grandeur of the fight was illustrated by the prize money. The fighters shared a $5 million purse which was unprecedented by the standards of the day. It was so big that quite literally everyone wanted to be involved. Burt Lancaster was a colour commentator while Frank Sinatra worked as a ringside photographer.
