After holding the manager's position at Celtic for just 50 matches and having failed to build on the club's title success of the previous season, our choice of Jozef Venglos over a couple of other options may appear a tad out of the blue. His most productive signing would be Johan Mjallby, however, with the centre-back being plucked from Swedish football for £1.5m and playing an integral part in helping Celtic to seven trophies and the UEFA Cup final during his six-year spell.
