Chelsea 0-0 West Ham: 5 Things We Learnt

1. Adrian Has Rightfully Usurped Jasskeleinen As First Choice

Adrian was another player who put in a brilliant performance in the London derby. The Spanish goalkeeper made three or four excellent saves as he helped his side secure a crucial away draw. When Jussi Jasskeleinen was first dropped from the West Ham team many eyebrows were raised. The experienced goalkeeper was superb for the Hammers last season and seemed settled as the team's No1. However, Adrian's emergence as the new first choice seems justified based on Wednesday night's viewing. The 27-year-old was Chelsea's nemesis between the posts and his image will no doubt haunt Mourinho if they fall two points short of the title. Adrian, who moved to West Ham in the summer, was impressive for Real Betis last season. He kept 11 clean sheets in all as the club managed to finish seventh in La Liga. Allardyce must know be delighted that the Spaniard is now replicating that form. On Wednesday night, Adrian showed with his shot-stopping ability and aerial presence that his manager may have unearthed a quality goalkeeper. At 6ft 3in Adrian commands his area and centre backs, installing them with confidence that they can rely on their goalkeeper. It is no coincidence that Tomkins' and Collins' brilliant performances coincided with Adrian's assured display, his confidence reverberates through the team.
