Chelsea Set To Beat Arsenal To Signing Of World Class Striker
Former Real Madrid man is definitely heading to London this summer it seems...
Chelsea are preparing a £30 million summer swoop for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain according to The Sun. And any potential move made by The Blues is set to gazump the deal Arsenal and Arsene Wenger were hoping to pull off this summer. The Gunners were reportedly hoping to bring the forward in to bolster their attacking options with Olivier Giroud currently the only bonafide 'number 9' they have in their squad. While Chelsea's interest in the former Real Madrid man comes after Didier Drogba's departure from Stamford Bridge at the end of last season. On top of that, Loic Remy, a bit part player last term, is also rumoured to be heading for the exit door. Jose Mourinho certainly knows what he will be getting from the Argentine as he worked with him for three seasons while the pair were at The Bernabeu. After 24 goals during his debut campaign in Italy Higuain took things on another level last season, notching 29 in a campaign that saw Napoli underperform in Serie A by finishing fifth. Given that they are merely in the Europa League next season, a player of Higuain's quality will be open to a move to a Champions League club. The 27-year-old reportedly heads a star studded striking transfer list for the current Premier League champions with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Charlie Austin and Rickie Lambert also under consideration.
