After narrowly avoiding relegation following a tense play-off with Nuremberg last season, Eintracht Frankfurt dramatically improved upon their Bundesliga position in 2017, posting a comfortable 11th place finish. A lot of that was down to Mexican playmaker Marco Fabían.

Just three months ago, a major back injury meant that Fabían couldn't even get dressed without assistance. Since then, he has become Die Adler's star man, and goes into the ConfedCup as one of El Tri's most highly anticipated players. It's some turnaround.

Frankfurt trainer Niko Kovac has described the Mexican midfielder as "special", and national coach Juan Carlos Osorio will be hoping Fabían can reproduce his club level magic in Russia. Fabían will prove crucial in supporting childhood friend Javier Hernadez upfront, as he dictates the centre in tandem with a peaking Hector Herrera.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
