Conor McGregor V Floyd Mayweather Super-Fight: 5 Positives & 5 Negatives
It's really happening, but is that entirely a good thing?
Whatever your opinion on whether the fight would actually happen or not, Wednesday 14th June will go down in history. It was the day the announcement came after months of speculation that Conor McGregor will step into the boxing world, to take one one of the greatest ever to put on the gloves. Floyd Mayweather's 50th and almost certainly final pro fight will take place in a little over ten weeks time at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The super-fight of a lifetime is official. While millions of people are excited about this blockbuster encounter, there are some prominent names who aren't exactly thrilled. Oscar De La Hoya has called it a farce and said it will harm boxing regardless of the result. While you could argue his rivalry with Mayweather might be clouding his judgement, it would be irresponsible to dismiss his comments completely.
Sometimes though, some things in sport are just to big to pass up. The world will be watching when these two step into the boxing ring in Las Vegas in a fight that could change combat sports forever, for better or worse. There are definite positives and negatives to this one, whether you are a fan of boxing, MMA or both. What can we look forward to, and what should we be worried about?
