Dave Jones & Turbulent Times At Sheffield Wednesday

Think of as many emotions as possible and I can assure you that Sheffield Wednesday fans have felt the majority of them in the last few weeks.

Think of as many emotions as possible and I can assure you that Sheffield Wednesday fans have felt the majority of them in the last few weeks. From the shear adulation of beating your city enemies and promotion contenders in Sheffield United, to the feeling of utter despair as you see the best manager to walk through Hillsborough€™s door walk back out of it for one last time. Enter Dave Jones, and another emotion. The feeling of uneasiness was apparent in every Wednesday fan I have spoke to, replacing a through and through Owls fan who had lead us to 3rd in the table and had turned Hillsborough in to the fortress it was once known to be, with a manager perceived as a sideward step. Not only that but Gary Megson, the former manager, had managed Bolton Wanderers in Europe, something Jones hasn€™t got on his CV. So what is in Jones€™ favour? What made him the man to push for automatic promotion and not the man that built the team around his style of play? According to the chairman it is the fact he is a €˜building manager€™. This has been seen as Jones€™ former clubs, most noticeably Cardiff City, where youth was the policy and the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Ledley came through and moved on to bigger and better things. Jones took charge of his first game last night, at Hillsborough, against a mid table Bury team. He tinkered with the starting line up and the style of play was noticeably different given the short amount of time he had with the players on the training ground. A 4-1 victory was a great start for the new manager and overall he received a good reception from the home support, although a few chants of €˜There€™s only one Gary Megson€™ were rumbling around early in the game, but they soon crumbled. If Wednesday get automatic promotion, or even go up through the play-offs, Mandaric will be the hero of the century, and Dave Jones will be the man who got us out of this situation. If Wednesday don€™t go up, it will always be a case of €˜what if?€™ For now it€™s a case of getting behind the team, manager and chairman and see where it gets us. Hopefully Wednesday fans will be celebrating this controversial decision, and not mourning the loss of Megson.
