England v Belgium: Hawk Eye Goal Line Technology To Debut

Hawk Eye Goal Line Technology is set to make its debut in England’s friendly against Belgium at Wembley tonight.

Hawk Eye Goal Line Technology is set to make its debut in England€™s friendly against Belgium at Wembley tonight. It will be the first time the technology - which utilises 14 individual cameras to ascertain if the ball has crossed the line €“ has been used in a major football match. England boss Roy Hodgson backs the technology. He said:
€œIt is another advance technologically and one which I hope will prove successful and will at least banish some of the ghosts of the past. I don€™t think there are too many people in football who have objections to the goal-line technology. There is nothing worse than losing a game because a goal you scored has been disallowed when everyone can see afterwards that it was a goal.€
The results of Hawk Eye will not be revealed to officials in tonight€™s game, nor will it be used for contentious goal line decisions like Frank Lampard€™s incorrectly disallowed goal against Germany at the 2010 World Cup. The technology is already used in professional cricket and tennis matches. If the trial is successful it may appear in the Premier League.
