5. Avenge Last Season's Result

Many consider Manchester United's main mistake last season was throwing away a 4-2 lead at Old Trafford, to draw 4-4 with Everton. With United sitting at the top of the table by 2 points after City's victory at Wolves, 3 points in this game would have meant going into the Manchester Derby 5 points ahead and knowing that a loss would not be a catastrophic result. United threw away a 2 goal lead and only had a 3 point advantage, with an inferior goal difference.

Subsequently the 1-0 loss at the Etihad stadium meant that Manchester City moved to the top of the table, and never rescinded their place.
