During their unprecedented popularity in the 1960s, The Beatles were instructed by manager Brian Epstein to avoid showing allegiance to any of the local football teams to avoid dividing their audience.

Whether or not the seas of screaming teenage girls would have immediately switched their support to The Searchers if Ringo had come out as a Tranmere Rovers fan seems unlikely, but regardless, the band remained tight-lipped.

That is until years later when in an interview Paul McCartney, still somewhat attempting to toe the line, admitted that while he wanted both local Premier League clubs to be successful, his family ties meant that if a Merseyside derby was taking place he would find himself firmly on the side of the Toffees.
