Ex-Real Madrid Boss Lined Up To Be Sunderland Manager?
Ellis Short aiming high?
Bernd Schuster is the latest name to be linked with the Sunderland job as the search for Dick Advocaat's successor continues, reports The Sun. The 55-year-old German boss has been unemployed since leaving Malaga last summer, but now he's ready for a return to management, and Wearside could be his next stop. Schuster had a glittering playing career, playing on both sides of El Clasico with Barcelona and Real Madrid, while he also spent a short time with Atletico Madrid, while he also played in his native Bundesliga for Koln at the start of career and Bayer Leverkusen to finish it. His managerial highlight was winning La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2008 with Real Madrid in his first season, with Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Robinho, Raul and Arjen Robben at his disposal, along with a host of other talents. Previously, Schuster had impressed with Getafe, taking them to the Copa Del Ray final, while he also had spells with Koln, Xerez, Shakhtar and Levante, with Besiktas and Malaga coming after his Madrid departure. His Shakhtar team racked up an average of almost two goals every game, while they only conceded 28 goals in his 43 games, finishing up with an impressive 70% win ratio. Schuster has experience on the continent, working under enormous pressure, and seems to fit Sunderland's criteria for a new boss. Whether he will be offered the job remains unclear, but a chance to leap into Premier League management isn't one he'd be likely to turn down.
