Formula 1 2013 British Grand Prix – Rosberg Wins Scintillating Scrap In Silverstone Sunshine

The Midfield Nico Hulkenberg made the best of the chaotic race to take tenth place and the first points for Sauber in five races as he enjoyed himself around Silverstone. He raced hard and overcame a slow puncture and early pit stop to grab a point. After a disappointing weekend in Canada, it was certainly a pick up for the team given their disappointing form at current. Gutierrez had a more eventful race, suffering front left tyre problems that also caused front wing failure racing to 14th place, only managing to beat the Caterham€™s to the finish even though he was generally happy with the car. The two Williams cars came home just outside the points in the teams 600th Grand Prix, with Maldonado and Bottas taking 11th and 12th respectively. Both drivers performed well but their car simply did not have the pace, and with a little bad luck on the restart Maldonado dropped two places in a near-tangle with Hulkenberg, costing them any hope of points. Bottas did however overtake Jenson Button on the final lap for slight conciliation. Jean-Eric Vergne was hoping for good things with their evident pace, but his rear left tyre delaminated spectacularly ahead of the two Lotus€™ on lap 15. Luckily he managed to recover to the pits but the tyre failure caused significant damage to the car and he struggled after going back out, eventually retiring the car on lap 37. The Tail End At the back of the grid, the Caterham€™s once again sandwiched the Marussia cars as Pic brought home his car for 15th place behind the Sauber of Gutierrez. He was pleased with his performance and the strategy of the race, which allowed him to tackle the Williams in front and finish comfortably ahead of Marussia. Van der Garde was unable to match his teammates performance, with the strategy and safety cars not working out well for him. On new tyres at the end he raced hard and almost overtook Chilton, but was unable to find a way past as he finished right behind him. Jules Bianchi did not have the best start to the race, and then struggled to match the pace of the Caterham in front. It went much the same for the rest of the race, with the final safety car providing an opportunity to make gains that they could not exploit on his way to 16th place. Max Chilton enjoyed his British Grand Prix debut in front of his home crowd, mixing it with his teammate and Pic in the early laps and then coming back past Van der Garde and holding him off on old tyres at the end of the race to grab 17th.
