Formula 1 2013 Italian Grand Prix – Red Bulls Whip The Prancing Horse

The Tail End

Williams woes continued, with Maldonado and Bottas taking 14th and 15th place respectively. Their strategy worked out ok but neither driver had the pace to challenge those ahead, with Maldonado losing places at the start. Both drivers were looking forward to Singapore and moving on from high-speed tracks. Caterham won the battle at the back this weekend, with both green cars making it home. Pic took 17th place on a two-stop strategy, pushing Williams early on and then overall had a fairly quiet race as they stuck to plan. Van der Garde was running well with his teammate, but then after a miscommunication he arrived early for a pit stop, costing him time. He overtook Bianchi again though, and followed Pic home for 18th place, underlining their clear advantage over Marussia. Bianchi made a solid start and had a decent first stint, then struggled with balance on the hard tyre. Their one-stop strategy couldn't keep them ahead of Caterham as they worked through traffic and ultimately he could only finish 19th. Chilton also suffered with balance issues in his Marussia, but matched his teammate in the first stint, pushing to overtake. He had a tough time with blue flags though as the leaders came through and couldn't get any more from his day at the office.
