The Tail End
In a tough race, Marussia bettered Caterham as Jules Bianchi finished P18, seizing the place from the Caterham's off the start and then holding position ahead comfortably throughout the race. New parts boosted their race pace and helped them take back the edge for a carefully managed one-stop race. Chilton couldn't emulate his teammates' achievements however, finishing P21 after serving a drive-through penalty from qualifying on lap six after the safety car came in, costing him around 15 seconds and leaving him to play catch-up. His fastest lap was better than both Caterham's however, and he's now finished every race this season with just one to go. Caterham were frustrated by being unable to use their better pace to achieve more. Van der Garde was beaten by Bianchi at the start and then simply couldn't get past him due to a lack of straight line speed, leaving him P19. Despite it, he enjoyed his weekend in Texas. Pic suffered the same issues with balance he found all weekend on his way to P20, unable to quite dial the car in, before a drive-through penalty late in the race for ignoring blue flags dropped him away from his teammate.
