How the Olympic Ceremony Should Have Been Directed
David Beckham
After playing a major part in actually bringing the Olympics to London in 2005, the way Beckham was treated in 2012 was disgraceful. Arguably the most famous footballer of all time, Beckham was deemed surplus to Team GB's footballing squad, by Stuart Pearce, despite his continuous comments of the how much he would've loved to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. By expelling Beckham from the Olympics, Britain had not only lost an top-class footballer, they had lost a major natural marketing ambassador. The amount of crowds that would have come to see just Beckham alone would have been unreal. Not only did Becks not get to represent GB for the Olympic games, he hardly got to play any part in the opening ceremony at all. While seven unknown youngsters were allowed to light the cauldron, Beckham was seen just as the man helping to escort the torch. Pretty much like a bodyguard. Is that how you treat a national treasure? It should have been Beckham running from the port and into the Olympic Stadium. This then should have been followed by Sir Steve Redgrave lighting the cauldron himself. However, Beckham still maintained his professionalism and did not complain once. A brilliant role model for the entire nation. David definitely deserved a bigger role in the Opening Ceremony.
