Liverpool Transfer News: 5 Underwhelming Transfer Targets

5. Luke Garbutt - Free

The young Everton full-back possesses undeniable potential, and Liverpool are in dire need of a quality left-back, but surely the Anfield club have invested enough money on 'potential' in recent transfer windows.

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen coined the phrase; "You can't win anything with kids" - a theory which was epitomised by Liverpool's failings this campaign.

The Reds currently have two natural left backs in the squad, one being Jose Enrique who is likely to be offloaded in a summer clear out, and young spaniard, Alberto Moreno, who himself is only 22 years of age.

Moreno currently lacks the experience to perform at a consistently high level in the Premier League, often finding himself caught out of position and vacating his primary defensive duties.

Liverpool would be far better off bringing an experienced left back who young Moreno could learn from as he continues to familiarise himself with the rigours of Premier League football.

A wise choice for an alternative would be Hamburg's Marcell Jansen; an experienced German full-back with 45 caps for his country who is available on a free transfer.

Instead, Rodgers seems intent on nabbing Garbutt from Merseyside neighbours, Everton, which would leave Liverpool going into the 2015/16 campaign with two massively inexperienced left backs to select from.
