Man Utd Transfer News: Ferguson To Gamble on Lucas Moura
Alex Ferguson looks to make a £30m gamble on Brazilian youngster Lucas Moura.
Manchester Evening News reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to spend big on Brazilian youngster Lucas Moura. Ferguson's previous disappointments with Brazilian players have done little to deter him, after past underwhelming appearances from the likes of Jose Kleberson and Anderson. Negotiations to snatch up the 19-year-old Moura are apparently at a standstill, however, after United threw down £29m to secure him, which may not be enough to lure away the attacking midfielder. Sao Paulo are keen to keep hold of him, and are prepared to offer improved contractual terms if he stays, though if United extend their offer past the £30m barrier, it is believed that they will indeed sell. Such an expense will mark a considerable gamble on the part of manager Ferguson, albeit one which could pay dividends as the squad try to claw back the Premiership from rivals Man City. Though Moura is green as far as European football goes, he has huge star potential, and could be the youthful injection that Old Trafford sorely needs. Though Ferguson brought in Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell to liven up his side, the addition of Moura might be a move of insurance after City won the domestic title race last season. With the pressure to improve upon that performance, it seems highly likely that United will splash a few extra million to snap up the prized player. With Man Utd's inconsistent midfield array, specifically the winding down of Paul Scholes' career, Anderson's underperformance and Darren Fletcher's absence, Moura might add some much-needed propulsion and creativity to the squad.
