5. New York Giants
In the 48 years of the Super Bowl, no team has ever played in the game when they are the hosting city. Over the last 13 years, the hosting city has even had trouble just getting to the playoffs; the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the last team to do that back in 2000. Yet, the New York Giants really do have the best opportunity to end that skid, especially since their team is built to go on a Super Bowl run at any time. They've won two out of the last six Super Bowls (2007 and 2011) under the Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning era, and they could win a third one in 2013. Of course, history is not on their side. But then again, when is it ever? In Super Bowl XLII, they were 12.5 point underdogs when they were up against the 18-0 New England Patriots and pulled off the greatest upset of all time by winning 17-14. Even four years later, against the same Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, the Giants were 2.5 point underdogs and yet, they still defied the odds by winning 21-17. So if any team can beat the odds and be the first team to host their own Super Bowl, it's definitely the Giants.
