Verdict
Preston; 69 shots, 29 on target, 9.9 shots per game. Oldham; 93 shots, 39 on target, 13.3 shots per game. You'd be daft not to expect a few goals in this one and with a combined average of 23.2 shots per game there'll be plenty of opportunities for them to be scored. Whilst Preston are higher and unbeaten in the league, I'd personally be happier with the start to the season that Oldham have made. Preston have shown they can stand up to anyone in the league but Oldham have shown more, they've displayed that when it clicks, they're capable of scoring a ridiculous amount of goals, especially away from home. Preston's wide pitch could suit Oldham more in this game as the 4 wingers in the squad- James Dayton, Cristian Montano, Sidney Schmeltz and Albert Rusnak will relish the space they're likely to get. If the last four meetings between the two are anything to go by- 3-3 and a 2-0 Preston win at Deepdale, 1-1 and a 3-1 Oldham win at Boundary Park - it'd be a surprise if this was a dull encounter. However, Deepdale has become somewhat of a fortress for Preston and if the defence is on song on the night, Lee Johnson's Latics could meet their match against Simon Grayson's North End. My Prediction; Preston North End 2-2 Oldham Athletic (Byrom and Humphrey for Preston, Adam Rooney and Danny Philliskirk for Latics)
