Ranking Sunderland's Premier League Managers As Players - Worst To Best
5. Paolo Di Canio
Paolo Di Canio was Sunderland's first ever manager from outside of Great Britain and Ireland. The madcap Italian's career on and off the field will be mainly remembered for the moments of madness such as: knee-sliding to victory against Newcastle, banning ketchup under his dictatorship at Sunderland, and of course, sending poor referee Paul Alcock flying when he played for Sheffield Wednesday. He was a genius. Completely irrational, but a genius on the field. He won Serie B promotion with Lazio, he was a Serie A and Coppa Italia runner up with Juventus before winning the UEFA Cup, while he went on to win Serie A and the European Super Cup as well as losing a Champions League final with AC Milan. Di Canio has seen some sights, but a managerial dugout won't be one of them anytime soon.
