It was said that Sky and ESPN would walk away from a league without the the Glasgow giant and clubs apparently dependent on the legions of Old Firm fans visiting their grounds up to four times a year would fold hand over fist. With no real competitor, Celtic would win the league by December and the whole structure would crumble under the weight of meaningless games and pitiful crowds. Such was the hyperbole, I was almost waiting for it to be said that the Mayans had Scottish Football in mind when the calender they created predicted then end of the world in 2012.
