Swansea 1-0 FC St Gallen: Routledge Goal The Difference In a Well-Fought Victory For The Swans

Wayne Routledge Swansea City midfielder Wayne Routledge scored the winning goal in the second-half to see past a spirited St Gallen side. Swiss opponents St Gallen were more than a match for the Premier League outfit, and should have taken the lead after being awarded a penalty for handball against Dwight Tiendalli. Goran Karanovic had his spot kick saved by 'keeper Gerhard Tremmel, and the side missed another good opportunity after Marco Mathys was put through on goal but side-footed wide from close range. After the break, St Gallen were made to rue the missed opportunities as Swansea made their pressure count with Wayne Routledge tapping in a rebound from inside the six-yard box after Bony had his initial shot saved. The Swiss outfit didn't give up, and created a number of opportunities to grab an equaliser, but they were guilty of over-playing and the attacks subsequently broke down. However, they made a great account of themselves throughout, but may feel more ruthlessness in front of goal could have led to a different outcome. St Gallen hit the post late on from a low drive by Stephane Nater, but it was Swansea City who held on to the win and took all three points to put them top of Group A with six points from two games.
