Simply described by the elegant English left-hander David Gower as "A little bit of fun", during a match on England's 1990/91 Ashes tour Lord Gower and John Morris decided to hire a plane. With England 2-0 down in the series after three Tests, they found themselves playing a tour match versus Queensland at the Carra Oval on the Gold Coast. Gower and Morris had been dismissed shortly before lunch on the third day and were looking for something to do to pass the time. Having seen several biplanes passing high above the ground during the match, the pair of Englishmen visited a nearby airfield and subsequently proceeded to hire a pre-war Tiger Moth as a bit of a prank. With Robin Smith and Allan Lamb at the crease, Gower and Morris persuaded their pilot to fly low over the oval on some occasions being no more than 200 feet above the ground. Spotted on board the aircraft by a photographer through his telephoto lens, Gower and Morris - who thought they'd gotten away with it - were heavily slapped on the wrist by the England management and each received a £1000 fine. On the incident England skipper Graham Gooch said: "They let us down badly. What if the rest of the team, especially the younger ones, thought that sort of behaviour was par for the course?"
