UFC: 5 Reasons Mark Hunt Will Fail To Claim Heavyweight Gold

His fight at UFC 180 this month is far from an easy one for the Super Samoan

Lets start with a little disclaimer, shall we? We're big, big Mark Hunt fans. Love the guy. He can really do no wrong. He always puts on a show, was the first man to knock out Big Country in the UFC, and is the promotion's number one all time comeback story. Just a fantastic turnaround tale, going from losing six straight fights to earning title relevancy, and having one of the best heavyweight bouts of all time in 2013 with Antonio Silva. Still, when we heard Hunt was granted an interim title shot against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in November, thanks to an injury to the frequently laid up champ Cain Velasquez, we were worried: Werdum in no easy task, and has been on a tear since his return to the UFC. We'd love to see Hunt win gold, as it would top off a storybook career, but it's a tough task that has been put before him. Can Hunt do it? We hope so. Really though, will he? That's a matter that needs closer examination. There are a lot of factors that aren't exactly in his favour, and depending on how the match with Werdum plays out, he could find himself in a world of trouble and disappointment. So lets take a look at five reasons why Mark Hunt may come up short at UFC 180.
