20 Things You Somehow Missed In Andor
10. Some Cast Members Fleshed Out Their Characters' Backstories To Strengthen Their Performances
It is not surprising that in a process as collaborative as filmmaking, actors might be far more involved in the development of their characters' backgrounds and arcs. This was no different in Andor, where the actors did more than just perform the roles.
In addition to the aforementioned Diego Luna, Kyle Soller and Kathryn Hunter (Eedy Karn) each had detailed workings of their respective characters, and these tidbits would inform their performances immensely.
Soller worked with his frequent scene partner/onscreen mother to flesh out the complicated and unsettling mother-son relationship. During an interview with Total Film, the Poldark actor stated that Syril bore the brunt of Eedy's frustrations following the end of her marriage.
As a result, he felt an overwhelming need to impress his superiors wherever he went. This was best reflected in his working relationship with Imperial Officer Dedra Meelo (Denise Gough), which felt very much like a man with a chip on his shoulder trying to win the favour - and, more chillingly, the affection - of an authority figure.
