If disproportionately giant, but incredibly cute, heads aren't you or your partner's style, you can always opt for the more to scale model figures. Playmates Toys (distributed by Bandai in Europe) have been a Star Trek staple since the early 1990s with their first run of action figures of (some of) the crew of the Enterprise-D, and others the likes of Gowron and 'a Borg'. Playmates figures and models have even made it to screen on Star Trek, used for the thoroughly dismembered stack of Borg drones in Scorpion and the Hansens' model Borg cube in Dark Frontier, for example.

The 2022-2023 releases of Playmates action figures included the 5 inch (12.7cm) posable forms of Science Officer Michael Burnham (with to size copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), Saru, Lieutenant Commander Data, Commander William Riker, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (all in their Next Generation season three onwards uniforms). Also available are "Monster Maroon" Admiral Kirk, Captain Spock, and a Khan Noonien Singh who comes with a delicious bowl of Ceti eels! Whilst a set of Star Trek: Prodigy characters was issued — Dal R'El with Murf, Gwyndala, Jankom Pog, and Zero — the Hologram Janeway figure was continually pushed back for release and is now cancelled.

For the ardent collectors out there, it should also be noted that there are differences in the packaging between the US and international releases of the Playmates/Bandai figures. Whereas the international versions have opted for the Star Trek Universe design scheme, the US editions have recreated the design of the packaging of the Next Generation 1992 releases and the 1995 Classic Star Trek Movies release for Kirk, Spock, and Khan.

As of 6th December 2023, there is also sad news and an extra reason to gift these figures while you still can! Playmates' big return to Star Trek after well over a decade has now come to an abrupt end. The company no longer intends to release other Trek action figures. Instead, as a representative for Playmates said in a statement, they will be "focusing on producing new ships and roleplay items for the foreseeable future."
