Physical media huh? Who'd have it these days?

Well, a lot of fans would! Not only do you get every episode but there are a tonne of extras, interviews, stills, hidden gems, and more that just beg to be revealed and explored.

But the journey to the Discs of Desire has not been a pleasant one for Star Trek. The Wrath of Khan's Director's Cut Blu-ray was notorious for its graphical error during the Kobayashi Maru sequence with Trekkies understandably annoyed at the poor editing.

While that issue is thankfully in the past, the release of season three of Picard caused fan ire almost immediately.

Bizarrely, the physical release on Blu-ray managed to slip in ten seconds from an incorrect effects sequence featuring the USS Enterprise-D. Visual Effects Production Manager Shawn Ewashko claimed that this was due to the wrong version of the episode being supplied to the home media production company. A suspicious mind might suspect that either the Obsidian Order or Tal'Shiar must have been involved for such a level of espionage to take place.

Annoying though it might have been, Paramount were exceptionally efficient when it came to offering replacement discs to consumers so that they could enjoy the return of the Galaxy Class Enterprise in all her crisp digital glory.

Raise your hand if you're still crying. Cause we are.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
