14 Dumbest Things In Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

12. Fire Powers

After finally showing some smarts throughout this picture to make up for being tossed the Idiot Ball multiple times in the previous installment, Kirk gets beaned with it again immediately following his shrewd blasting of the decloaking Bird of Prey.

When he orders the shields raised but they are non-functional, he ought to have immediately ordered Sulu to try to fire again, having previously ordered “All power to the weapons systems.” Kirk doesn’t even order evasive action—he just looks helpless as Kruge counter-punches. Even if the Klingons managed to fire first, he’d at least have appeared competent.

Instead, the Enterprise is crippled and ultimately scuttled. This isn’t just dumb. It makes Kirk look incompetent.
